Hello -- I found you guys through the journals on Crazy Guy On A Bike forums! I'm just starting research for a tour of the Pacific Coast from Oregon to the Bay Area. Tentative schedule is to leave in July of either 2010 or 2011. I'm planning on renting a van to take my bike up to Oregon to visit family around the Portland-Oregon City area, then drive to Astoria and drop off the van. I'm finally car free at last! Riding just about everday. Planning on doing some bike camping, and short-distance touring to get into shape (Yosemite, Calaveras Big Trees). Will be ordering a Surly Long Haul Trucker soon with Surly Nice front/rear racks and Ortlieb panniers. I will most likely be riding shorter distances down the Pacific Coast, like 25 miles a day average. Photography and birding are two of my avid hobbies. I'd also like to explore some of the museums and beaches. Did you run into problems camping on the beach? Are there any hostels along the Pacific Coast from Oregon to the B
